Hiking to Mount Skåla
Mt Skåla is one of the most famous summits in Norway and a “must do” if you are in the area.
Skåla is known for two things. First the Kloumanstornet, a two-story stone tower built on top of the mountain at the end of the 1800s and second, Norway’s longest uphill, home the annual “Skåla opp”, a 1800m vertical race from fjord to summit.
“Top-10 list of Norway’s most beautiful summits in the summer issue of the magazine UTE.“
Climbing Skåla is a trip for experienced hikers looking for both stunning views AND physical challenge. The first part of the hike takes us through lush and dreamy spruce trees before coming to the tree line. The remainder of the 1800m to climb will be in open alpine environment, allowing for stunning views of Stryn and the fjord below. Once at the summit, we are rewarded with views of The Sunnmøre alps, Jotunheimen and Jostedalsbreen on top of learning how and why the tower came was built on this remote summit.
