The Classic Fjord Tour
The Classic Fjord Tour is a road biking route starting on the northwestern coast of Fjord Norway, venturing into a mountain region where the road leads to the famous Trollstigen and Geiranger and hidden gems in the Hjørundfjord. The Classic Fjord Tour is filled with contrasts, from the sea breeze nipping at you while crossing windblown islands by bridge, to the warm sun of lush green fjord valleys and crisp air of heather-clad mountains. Stay overnight in authentic fisherman´s cabins, old trading posts and luxurious traditional hotels, and keep your energy up with traditional farmer and fisherman´s dishes using fresh ingredients from fjord and field.
This tour is well suited for active people who have biking experience and want to test their skills on hairpin bends climbing up steep mountain roads, and for the experienced biker who is looking for a new and unique adventure.

Transfer from the Airports (Ålesund/Molde/Kristiandsund) to Håholmen
Arriving at Håholmen Havstua (hotel) around 18.00!
The hotel is an original cluster of houses, and you will enjoy yourself here. Håholmen Sea Cottages consists of 25 buildings, including the main building, meeting rooms, hotel rooms, a pub, a restaurant, and a museum. The guests roam between the buildings here, just like they did in a living fishermen’s community in the olden days. It is very inspiring to experience the coastal culture and nature this way.
Dinner and presentation of the trip
Get excited about the great eating experience, Håholmen is famous for exquisite food. The cooks use local ingredients and recipes and prepare the food from scratch. The fact that it’s sea food that is served in an old fishing camp is hardly a surprise. The choice of wines is great and matches the menu.
Stage 1: Håholmen to Angvika – 100km – 800m d+
From Håholmen to Angvika, the famed Atlantic Road awaits. This architectural masterpiece has eight bridges connecting the many islands with the mainland. In the vast horizon of blue, green and grey, the Atlantic Road twists and bends like the giant sea serpent of old Norse tales. After this we get on to route 666 which leads you along the Kvernesfjorden to Angvika.
Arriving at the hotel around 16.00
National Romantic art, crackling log fires, lokal dishes, and fine china. Angvik Gamle Handelssted is a little gem as it is beautifully situated close to Tingvoll Fjord in the region Nordmøre. The hotel has 37 rooms, and we are searching for the perfect balance between exclusivity and exquisite quality without losing the informal homey atmosphere.
Enjoy some rest at the SPA, take a swim in the fjord and get ready for an incredible dinner. Their five-course inspiration menu is served in Bøkkerstua. The table set starts at 19:30 and then the menu of the evening will be presented. The excitement about the chef’s choice, along with the taste experience, is part of the hotel’s distinctive character.
After a long day of riding, a hearty meal of local delicacies and the gentle sound of waves and ocean breezes will soon have you drifting off to sleep.
Stage 2: Angvika to Åndalsnes – 115km, 1500m d+
After a good night´s rest, make sure to get an early start on the next leg, you don´t want to miss one minute of daylight! From Angvika route 666 continues to Eresfjord and over the Vistdalsheia plateau at 555 masl, before reaching the village of Åndalsnes. This village between mountain and fjord is a base for mountaineers and cyclists alike, coming from all over the world to explore the wild and untamed nature.
Arriving at Hotel Aak around 16.00
The hotel with it’s 33 beds (16 rooms) has it’s history, but they e also have newly made, modern rooms. The 3 rooms in the old part of the hotel have lovely wooden walls with delicious colours, and a fantastic view towards the mountains.
Stage 3: Åndalsnes to Valldal – 50km – 1100m d+
From Åndalsnes you will complete a 51 km ride to reach Valldal on the other side of the mountain. One of the toughest climbs in the region awaits – but we promise the view at the top is worth it! The highest point of the Trollstigen road lies at 705 masl, and from the viewpoint you can see directly down on the masterfully structured hairpin bends making it possible to climb the steep mountainsides. After completing the challenging climb, you can look forward to a mostly flat and downhill leg to the little village of Valldal.
Arriving at Valldal Fjordhotel hotel around 12.00
The hotel is perfectly located between two of Norway’s most famous tourist destinations; Geiranger and Trollstigen, right in the center of Valldal. The hotel is located at the very end of Valldøla, with stunning views of the Norddalsfjord and Syltefjellet.
After a nice lunch and some rest, get ready to explore the fjord from the water! Enjoy a stunning kayak tour from Fjøra to Tafjord in a deep fjord!
Back to the hotel for dinner and a good night sleep before the next day and the and the queen stage.
Stage 4: Valldal – Geiranger – Dalsnibba – Geiranger 80km – 2400m d+
Leaving behind tranquil Valldal, next up is a ferry crossing to Eidsdal and ride to Geiranger. On you way down the hairpin bends, do stop at the Ørnesvingen viewpoint to get that perfect photo of the UNESCO World Heritage fjord landscape. After getting some rest down in the village, the viewpoint Dalsnibba is your next challenge. The glass viewing platform rests at 1500 masl and the view is breathtaking, but so is the climb! After some photos on the top it´s time for a long downhill back to Geiranger and our hotell for the summer.
Getting some rest and a dinner with a view at Hotel Utsikten Geiranger
Hotel Utsikten, Geiranger is the topmost hotel in Geiranger. There is nowhere else you can wake up, eat breakfast, or enjoy dinner with this incredible view. The hotel has been located here since 1893. It was the time when most hotels in Geiranger were established.
Stage 5: Geiranger to Ålesund. 100km – 1000m d+
As you embark on the last leg of this epic journey, 119 km of pure beauty awaits. The ferry takes you on the Geirangerfjord through some of the most breathtaking natural and cultural landscape Norway has to offer. Look for old farm hamlets clinging on to little patches of green high up in the mountainsides around you, and waterfalls cascading down into the deep fjord. When the ferry reaches Hellesylt, next up is a landscape beautiful enough to impress a queen. Norangsdalen is known as the Queen´s Route, and the narrow valley is full of cultural memories that are yours to discover if you look closely. The Hjørundfjord has never truly been tamed by man, and several of the small communities that rest by the banks of the fjord are still only reachable by ferry. The jagged peaks of the Sunmøre Alps and the narrow valleys make this a retreat for adventure seekers and leisure travelers alike.
