Ski and sail adventure in Hjørundfjorden

Ski some of the best lines in Sunmøre during the day. Wine and dine as your navigating past towering cliffs. Fall to sleep while being gently rocked by the waves.  Pretty amazing picture right? What if we add to that your own chef creating three courses dinner every night, a ski guide that know the area like the back of his hand and a world class mountain scenery? This is our ski and sail concept!

Together with R/V Kinfish we have put together a limited offer of a 6 days ski-and-sail trips in Hjørundfjorden in Sunnmøre – one of Norway’s wildest and most scenic fjords. This is THE absolute best way to experience the fjord region in Norway. We start and finish our trip in the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund.

Day by day

In the afternoon on arrival night we will start our journey in towards Hjørundfjorden and our ski adventure for the coming week. You will be show to your cabin for the trip that will be your home for the coming week. We stay 2 persons in each cabin and all of them have a bathroom included. We have a maximum of 12 clients on the boat for the trip together with 2 guides.

With two guides on the boat we will have great possibilities to split up the group in two and adjust the trip after each individuals askings.

After a steady breakfast on the boat, you’ll get ashore by dinghy to start your touring day. You will start your first morning with a short training with beacons and try out the rest of the avalanche equipment. This is our routine on all our trips and have worked out really well.

Destination will change every day based on conditions, weather and the group’s skills and mood. After a long day out, you can just chill out on the boat, fish and the chef will take good care of you and serve delicious food.

We do 900-1500 verticals per day during our ski program and as a bonus most of the summits will give you a breathtaking fjord view.

After a warm-up day you will be ready for a longer day out in the mountains. Just as the day before we will choose the best route after prevailing snowconditions. We always try to put in education during our trips and you should come home with the feeling of that you have learned something new both about snow and ski touring but of course also about norway.

Day 3 is often the day where our bodies feel the most sore. This and the weather will steer our the decision for today´s summit and touring.

Possible destinations: Risenosa or Dukhornet

After a couple of days in the region, we should be ready to make an attempt at one of the Sunnmøre alps big classics – Slogen. The reward on the summit will be breathtaking views from the summit out over Norangsfjorden and Hjørundfjorden. From the summit with have an descent of over 1500 verticals all the way back to the boat.

It’s not over until it’s over! Your guide will keep hunting for the best snow and show some of the most spectacular runs in the region.

For the more adventurous, you might choose to make an attempt on Grøtdalstindane, where we have to use ice axes and crampons to reach the summit. Or what about doing the ultra-classic Skårasalen – where we´re able to ski all the way down to the fjord.

Final day for the trip and some of us will maybe be up for a rest-day? For the rest of us it´s more skiing on the schedule – we will just as always aim for the best available skiing.

On the night we will have a final BBQ-dinner in Hjørundfjorden with the team to round up an awesome week. Early in the morning we´ll start the way out towards Ålesund and you´re welcome to leave the ship at 09.00 in the morning.

What do our clients say?

When the snow became deeper underfoot, we skinned up and soon, with Oscar leading the way, got into a good rhythm as we climbed onwards and upwards, with not another person in sight, and the only sound that of skis on the soft snow.” – Pippa Middleton, Ski & Sail 2014
