Here's how to find the best tours — every single winter day
Choosing the right trip in winter is never just about one simple choice. There are a hundred small reviews, experiences and gut feelings—combined with good data. For us in Uteguiden, this is our craft. Here's an insight into how we work to ensure our guests get the safest and most memorable winter adventures, whether the goal is laps in the forrest or a thrilling ski tour in the Sunnmøre Alps
1. We always start with weather and avalanches - but read more than just numbers
Weather forecasts, precipitation, wind direction and temperature trends form the basis for all decisions.
But it doesn't stop there.
We interpret alerts in the context of terrain, snow type and history - not just the current forecast. How has the wind been working in the mountains over the past few days? Where is the slabs? When did the warm weather come? Small details determine big differences in the choice between top quality and “not today”. We address all of this at our guide meetings before each day of the tour — an important part of our systematic safety work.
2. We go out and feel the snow — every day
No digital tool can replace standing in the snow yourself.
Our guides are out on the terrain daily, checking snow profile, knowing layering, assessing stability and keeping track of how the weather affects the snow from day to day.
All this information in layers with observations from the guides we put together into our own avalanche warning for the region in which we work. This is unique to us in Uteguiden in a national perspective.
