The architecture is characterized by a very fascinating history and an originally defined construction plan.
Large parts of Ålesund burned down in 1904, and this resulted in the decision to build the new houses in Art Nouveau style, which characterized much of the European architecture around the turn of the century. No other town in Norway has as many spires and turrets as Ålesund, let alone the facades’ detailed ornaments and figures.
If you want to enjoy a fantastic view of the town, you will find a road to the viewpoint on top of the mountain Aksla via the town centre. You can choose to walk the 418 stairs up from Byparken or make the turn around Aksla and up via electric bike. If you ask us, the last option is probably our favourite!
