10 Episodes with Useful Tips

Episode 1. Applying skins to your skis

Before you begin your ascent, you need to put on the skins. There are many important things to think about here, and Gordie will walk you through this step by step.

Episode 2. Removing skins once you're on skis

When you reach the top, it’s time to remove the skins before skiing down. Sounds simple, right? But there are many important details—such as dealing with strong winds and skins that flap against the skin glue. Learn how to do this correctly to preserve your skins as best as possible.

Episode 3. Touring binding in walk mode

Using ski touring bindings properly is very important. Doing it incorrectly can risk losing your skis on the climb. With a bit of practice, it’s easy to do without fuss. Watch the video from Gordie for good tips on doing this simply and cleanly.

In this episode, Gordie shows how to set your bindings to “Touring Mode.” All touring bindings must be in walk mode when ascending; otherwise, they risk opening in steep terrain.

Episode 6. How to make “kick turns” uphill

This is an essential part of ski touring and undoubtedly what most people struggle with. Watch this video—it will save you a lot of energy on your next tour.

Episode 7. Proper touring technique

Here Gordie demonstrates correct technique for ascending, including how to use the heel riser. Some prefer high risers and steep tracks—but there are better methods.

Episode 8. Use of ski touring boots

In this episode, we show you how to use touring boots and what makes them different from regular alpine ski boots.

Episode 9. Use of avalanche equipment

What avalanche gear do you really need when traveling in winter mountains? Here Gordie shows what we use when on our tours: a transceiver with three antennas, probe, and shovel.

Episode 10. Stability test on spring snow

As a bonus episode, Gordie shows you how to perform a simple and quick penetration test to check stability. Perfect for ski touring in spring.
