In Sunnmøre, mountains rise straight from the fjords, winter light changes by the hour, and every day brings new possibilities for adventure.
Ski above the fjords
In Sunnmøre, the winter landscape is made for ski touring. The Sunnmøre Alps rise steeply from the fjords, with peaks, open snowfields and views stretching all the way to the sea.
But ski touring here is about more than the descent. It is the whole day outside: skins on, skis over your shoulder, cold air in your lungs and the landscape opening up as you climb.
With a local guide, the day can be shaped around the conditions, your experience and what you want from the mountain. Some days call for a longer ascent and a big ski run. Others are about finding the best snow, the best light or simply a mountain that feels right that day.
Let the conditions decide
Winter int he mountains is never exactly the same.
Snow, wind, visibility and avalanche conditions all play a part in deciding where to go.That is one of the reasons we prefer to plan with some flexibility.
Our guides know the mountains around Sunnmøre and can adapt the day to the conditions. You bring the curiosity. They take care of the route, the decisions and the practical details along the way.
It means you can spend less time worrying about where you should go and more time looking up at where you are.
Make winter a little bigger
Some winter adventures deserve more than a day.
Spend a Ski Touring Week exploring the Sunnmøre Alps with a local guide, with time to discover different mountains, find the best conditions and really get to know the landscape.
Or make the fjord your base on Ski & Sail, combining days in the mountains with life aboard MS Gamle Havstein. Ski during the day, return to the boat for local food and a good night’s sleep, and wake up ready for another day in the mountains.
Two different ways to spend more time in Sunnmøre – and make winter into a journey, not just a day out.
